The last
survivor of the original Drifters with Clyde McPhatter has
passed away. Beginning as a tenor with the group, he became
their bass and will always be remembered for his lead on
"White Christmas". He was still on stage performing in 2007.
This was indeed a
nice man. In 2004, I was invited to sit on a panel at the
Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland during the winter
with snow on the ground (Everyone knows how I
hate winter!). I went there for one reason, that the great
Bill Pinkney was to sit on the same panel with me.
You’ve entertained us for 54 years,
Mr. Pinkney, now rest in peace.
